Just like Granny made it, you’ll love this warm and comforting bread pudding! Perfectly spiced with vanilla and nutmeg, and topped with a rich vanilla sauce.
Ingredients
For the Pudding:
4 cups white bread, cubed (about 8 slices)
1/2 cup raisins
2 cups milk
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 tablespoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
For the Vanilla Sauce:
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
1 tablespoon vanilla
Directions
1. Prepare the Pudding:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread and raisins.
In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter over medium heat until the butter melts (4-7 minutes). Pour this mixture over the bread and let it soak for 10 minutes.
Stir in the sugar, eggs, vanilla, and nutmeg.
Pour the mixture into a greased 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.
Bake for 40-50 minutes until the pudding is set and golden on top.
2. Prepare the Vanilla Sauce:
In a 1-quart saucepan, combine butter, sugar, brown sugar, and heavy cream. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the mixture thickens and boils (about 5-8 minutes).
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
3. Serve:
Spoon the warm bread pudding into dessert dishes and drizzle generously with vanilla sauce.
Enjoy with vanilla ice cream if desired!
